9 student-friendly cocktail offers that won't break the bank

There's no reason why you should be stuck at home miserable when your mates are out but money is tight. Dublin has so many bars and so much competition that they will do nearly anything to get you in the door.

Here are nine of the best offers in the city, whether you're strapped for cash or just watching the pennies. Sláinte!

1. Lost Lane, Grafton Street

Lost Lane, off Grafton Street (Lost Lane Facebook)

Down a little alley at the bottom of Grafton Street is Lost Lane – until recently known as Lillie’s Bordello but now rebranded. They have plenty of cool DJs and live music, but more importantly they do two mojitos for a tenner. Result!

2. 777, George's Street

Perfect location on George’s Street: check. Cool decor: check. Discount cocktails: triple check! This stylish Mexican joint serves up two margaritas for €14 every Monday.

3. Bow Lane, Aungier Street

This Aungier Street hotspot is famous for its bottomless boozy brunch on Saturdays and Sundays (€25 per person as long as you each order off the brunch menu) but the real value is afterwards on Saturdays. Enjoy two cocktails for just €12 from 4pm to 7pm. Cheers!

4. Saba, Clarendon Street/Baggot Street

Saba means “happy meeting place” in Thai and that’s definitely the case with this offer – choose from one of seven cocktails at €7 each from midday until 7pm daily. The offer is available at both their Clarendon Street and Baggot Street restaurants.

5. Capitol, Aungier Street

Aungier Street is the place to go for cut-price booze – Capitol’s cocktail menu has options for as little as €5. That’s less than a pint!

6. Pygmalion, South William Street

Pygmalion is a Dublin institution – the best house DJs around, loads of outdoor seating and 2-for-1 “Pygtails” seven days a week.

7. Alfie's, South William Street

Alfie's, South William Street (Alfie's Facebook)

Fancy a cheeky Sunday session? Alfie’s has you covered – 18 different cocktails at just a fiver each each Sunday and Monday. At that price they’re practically paying you to drink.

8. Dakota, South William Street

When you’d had your fill of Alfie’s, head down the street to Dakota, where selected cocktails are just €6 from Sunday to Thursday, every week.

9. Fade Street Social, Fade Street

Dylan McGrath’s place is known for its fine food, but don’t miss this offer – 2-for-1 on flatbreads, bar bites and classic cocktails from Sunday-Thursday 4pm-7pm and from Friday-Saturday 3pm-5pm. Live the high life for less!
