9 Injured By Hailstones At QLD School Fair With Severe Storms Forecast To Lash The State

Massive chunks of icy hailstones have injured nine people attending a school fair in Queensland, with more storms forecast for the Sunshine State.

Over the weekend, south-east Queensland was lashed with wild weather, including lightning, rain and hailstorms, leading to power outages and damage to homes and cars.

Per 9News, some of the hailstones that hammered residents in the Southern Downs measured up to 8-9cm.

According to the publication, a total of nine people were treated for hail-related injuries at Esk State School’s 150th anniversary fair.

At about 3.24pm local time, four people were taken to hospital with minor injuries, while a woman in her 30s was sent to Ipswich Hospital in a stable condition with head and neck injuries.

A man, reportedly in his 20s, went to Gatton Hospital in a stable condition with minor burns, and two women — one in her 20s and another in her 30s — were also sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

Four more people were also treated at the scene by paramedics.

In its latest update, the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has warned that the state is forecast to be hammered with more wild weather, including severe storms, wild gusts of wind and more hailstorms.

Following the concerning forecast, Queensland Premier David Crisafulli has assured residents that emergency services are prepared and ready to assist those who need help.

“I want Queenslanders to know we’re prepared for this,” he said, per 9News.

“I think that’s what makes the state so resilient, the ability to be able to deal with what Mother Nature throws at us.”

The storms aren’t expected to ease until Tuesday, the publication reports.
