9 Giants among modern-era nominees for Hall of Fame Class of 2020

The Pro Football Hall of Fame officially announced their list of 122 modern-era nominees for the Class of 2020, and nine former members of the New York Giants made the initial cut.

Here’s a quick look at all nine of those players and the years they spent with the Giants:

  • Quarterback Jeff Hostetler (1984-1992)
  • Running back Tiki Barber (1997-2006)
  • Running back Herschel Walker (1995)
  • Tight end Jeremy Shockey (2002-2007)
  • Offensive tackle Lomas Brown (2000-2001)
  • Linebacker Carl Banks (1984-1992)
  • Punter Jeff Feagles (2003-2009)
  • Punter Sean Landeta (1985-1993, 2006)
  • Return specialist Brian Mitchell (2003)

None of these nine Giants were finalists a year ago and none are likely — although all very deserving — to make the cut and find themselves enshrined in Canton.

Barber is close and likely would have gotten over the hump if he didn’t retire early, while Banks will forever be overshadowed by Lawrence Taylor and Harry Carson, although they’d both tell you he was every bit as talented.
