9 dead, at least 40 hurt in weekend shootings in Chicago

CHICAGO _ Nine people were killed and at least 40 others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago over the weekend, authorities said.

So far this year, more than 2,460 people have been shot in Chicago, while in all of 2015, the city had 2,988 shooting victims.

The weekend's busiest stretch was from late Saturday morning into early Sunday when three were shot to death and 23 others were hurt in separate incidents.

Four other people were killed and 13 were wounded in shootings from 3:50 p.m. Friday to 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Two men were also fatally shot and four others were wounded in shootings between Sunday evening and early Monday.

The violence this weekend brings the year's homicide total to 418, according to data compiled by the Chicago Tribune. The two people shot to death Monday morning were August's 13th and 14th homicides, about a week into the month.
