9 Covid deaths reported by the Department of Health in 24 hours

The onslaught of Covid 19 continued today with the Department of Health reporting a further nine coronavirus related deaths reported in the last 24 hour period.

According to the latest update at 2pm on Saturday, stated that all of the fatalities occurred within the current reporting period.

And with Health Minister Robins Swann warning of a third wave in January, the death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 1,443 according to DoH figures.

Saturday's dashboard update had reported a slight drop on Friday's figures with 11,298 positive cases detected of Covid-19 in last seven days.

Currently this includes: 

  • 674 Covid patients being treated in hospital
  • 47 Covid patients being treated in intensive care

  • 33 Covid patients being ventilated

The figures bring the total number of positive cases to 87,588 since the start of the pandemic.

In total of 1,278,938 Covid tests have been carried out in Northern Ireland.

Currently there are 137 confirmed Covid outbreaks in days nursing and care homes where the Pfizer Covid vaccine is being rolled out.

The 80+ age group remains the most vulnerable to the virus with a total of 904 deaths reported and those aged 60 to 79 follow, with a total of 466 deaths reported
