From cosy classics to new-season trends, these are the chicest Autumn nail designs to rotate

A new season calls for change, whether that begins in your daily routine, your wardrobe, or your choice of manicures. When that season is autumn, though, the latter definitely tends to top our list of priorities, as luxe and moody hues replace sunny brights - and something tells us 2025's chic array of autumn nail designs will coax us to the salon sooner rather than later...

So far, this year's nail trends have been nothing short of abundant, with summer alone welcoming stylish and ever-so-juicy sorbet nails and shimmery, aquatic marine manicures, along with many more vibrant looks. But with cooler days ahead, we're keen to swap these sunny shades for something altogether cosier. Think rich, wine-like colours and burnt oranges as well as subtle designs that will perfectly complement your collection of fluffy knit sweaters and classic trench coats.

This year's autumnal array has it all, from timeless cosy season favourites to modern trends like polka dot nails. And in case you're unsure of where to start, we've curated a list of 12 very sophisticated manicures to request - with picks to suit every preference and nail length.

12 autumn nail designs to carry you through the season in style

While we'll never shy away from manicure classics, like bright, cherry red or the iconic funny bunny nail trend, it's also great to add some seasonal hues into the mix. There's something pleasingly wholesome about matching your nails to the weather outside, whether that be a pumpkin spice-esque burnt orange or a warming espresso brown.

If you're wondering how to make your manicure last longer, it all starts with keeping your talons in tip-top condition, whether that means using a nourishing cuticle oil or a high-shine, glossy top coat. So, before you start to consider your nail shade of choice, here are a few of our nail care must-haves...

12 Autumn nail designs to inspire your next mani appointment

If you're anything like us, you'll need some visual inspiration of this season's must-have nail designs, so we've rounded up 12 trending manicures to take you through the entirety of autumn...

1. Chestnut nails

Brown chestnut nails are already proving very popular this season and for good reason. The cosy hue looks so chic with short nails, but equally, it pairs beautifully with longer almond styles too. Some may also find this sort of creamy shade more wearable and versatile compared to a dark, wine-like red or aubergine shade.

2. Short red nails

A bright, classic red is always a good option for a transitional, in-between season manicure, but especially when autumn rolls around. Picture this luxe shade with a cream knit jumper, or alongside a camel trench coat.

3. Polka dot nails

If you're keen to embrace some nail art this autumn season, polka dots are the way to go. You can opt for any colour combination with this design, though we would make a case for a nude and burgundy polka dot manicure, or a creamy white and brown pairing. You can also keep it really classic and opt for a black dotted design over a milky white (as seen above).

4. Black cherry nails

At first glance, this mysterious shade looks almost black, however upon closer inspection it actually boasts a dark red hue - hence it's name, black cherry nails. Ideal for those looking for a chic yet grungy take on a classic red manicure.

5. Espresso brown nails

With the cold weather approaching, what better time to wear espresso nails? Replicating steaming cups of strong coffee, this cosy warm brown shade evokes all things style and sophistication - plus points for those who opt for a mirror-like chrome glaze over the top.

6. Tortoiseshell French tip nails

After a season of colourful French tip trends (we're looking at you lemon French tip nails) the trend is continuing in the form of tortoiseshell - a subtle approach to on-trend animal prints.

7. Burgundy nails

If any nail colour was made to be worn in autumn, it's burgundy. Whether you pair it with a short square shape or a long almond manicure, this sultry shade never fails to look expensive and effortless. That said, short autumn nails are very popular this year, so we'd suggest layering this wine-like colour over a neat shape like squoval.

8. Navy blue nails

This rich yet moody navy tone is the ideal candidate for those wanting an alternative to classic neutral autumnal nail polish shades. It's stylish and slightly more niche than a burgundy (which seems to be on everyone's nails at the moment), but still just as wearable.

9. Midnight black nails

When in doubt, monochrome never fails. Either take the route of wearing the shade as a solid block colour or opt for the more subtle and contemporary choice of black French tip nails.

10. Burnt orange nails

This toasty orange-hue follows in the footsteps of autumn's terracopper hair trend. Pair with short square nails for the ultimate chic autumn nail design.

11. Sheer neutral nails

Championing the 'your nails but better' look, sheer nail polishes have taken the manicure world by storm in recent months, and it's certainly not slowing down for autumn. Complete the look with an ultra-glossy top coat, such as the OPI Mirror Shine Top Coat.

12. Aubergine nails

This gorgeous opulent purple tone oozes decadence and glamour, especially when paired with square nail shape - and would make a great option for a spooky-chic October mani.
