87-year-old woman seriously injured after hit-and-run crash

An 87-year-old woman has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car which failed to stop.

The hit-and-run crash happened in Church Road, in Haydock, near Wigan, on Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene, near to the junction of Kenyons Lane South, at about 7.20am.

Police say the woman was left with serious injuries and remains in hospital.

The car, described only as black, did not stop at the scene.

Officers in Merseyside are carrying out CCTV enquiries to identify the driver of the vehicle and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
