An 86-year-old bank robber was easily captured Monday in South Carolina, after he apparently drove too cautiously to make the necessary fast getaway, according to the Greenville Police Department.
The robbery happened around 9:30 a.m. Monday at a Bank of America branch on South Pleasantburg Road, police said in a Facebook post.
"A masked male, later identified as Gilbert Paul Ware, 86, entered a Greenville bank, presented a firearm and demanded money from employees," the release said.
"Ware then left the property, but did not get far," officials posted.
He was stopped about a mile away from the bank, near the intersection of South Pleasantburg and East Antrium Drive, officials said.
The arrest was "minutes later," WYFF reported.
"The firearm used in the robbery was recovered as well as the stolen money," the police release said. "For now, he is charged with bank robbery, but more charges are expected to be filed."
No one was injured in the robbery or the arrest, officials posted.
Investigators did not say what Ware used to cover his face, or what type of weapon was used.
