85-Year-Old Shares Top Tips For Longevity And Healthy Lifestyle

Genetics and lifestyle contribute to his longevity.

An 85-year-old man from Porepunkah in Victoria, Australia, shared his secrets to a long and healthy life. With a family history of longevity, he credits both genetics and lifestyle choices for his well-being.

Staying active has been a key part of his routine. From playing sports in his youth to maintaining a gym membership at 80, he focuses on strength and conditioning exercises to stay fit. Gardening is another passion, providing both fresh vegetables for his diet and physical activity.

His structured eating habits include light breakfasts, soups or salads for lunch, and a balanced dinner. While he avoids snacks, he enjoys a daily mid-morning coffee and a piece of apple before bed. A bit of chocolate after dinner is his indulgence, along with a glass of wine in moderation.

Engaging his mind is equally important. He reads the news daily, enjoys non-fiction books, and watches documentaries on history and the natural world. Social connections are maintained through annual gatherings with his forestry school classmates and weekly golf games.

His 58-year marriage is a source of joy, with daily breakfasts in bed for his wife and shared activities, except for golf. He emphasizes the importance of caring for one's life partner for a fulfilling life.

Reflecting on his career in forestry management, he retired at 55 and values the balance of retirement years matching his working years. Despite health challenges, he remains active and engaged, finding purpose and happiness in his relationship with his wife.
