85 new cases in the State

 

Kerala reported 85 cases of COVID-19 and 46 recoveries on Saturday, taking the total number of active cases in the State to 1,342.

Of the new cases, 71 are imported cases of infection diagnosed in people who have come to the State from abroad, while 14 are cases of local transmission acquired through contact with known or unknown sources of infection. The latter include four health care workers, one in Kozhikode and three in Malappuram.

The cumulative number of those who have tested positive for COVID-19 since the outbreak began in Kerala is 2,407. So far, the number of recoveries reported in 1,045.

The number of persons put under surveillance and quarantine in Kerala now is 2.35 lakh. About 2.33 lakh are either in home or institutional quarantine, while 1,989 people with mild symptoms have been isolated in hospitals in various districts. The number of hospital admissions on Saturday alone is 223.

An official release issued by the Health Department said that till date, the samples of 1,09,729 people had been tested. The results of 3,223 persons were currently pending. The routine surveillance samples apart, the State had also tested another 29,790 samples as part of sentinel surveillance.

The total number of hotspots in the State now stood at 117. While two new regions in Kannur entered the list, 13 others in Palakkad, Kannur, and Kasaragod were dropped from the list.
