The Tokyo Metropolitan government said Thursday that 843 people had been newly confirmed as testing positive for the novel coronavirus.
The number marked a decrease of 167 from the same day a week earlier, making it the seventh consecutive day for the daily tally to be smaller than seven days before.
According to the metropolitan government, the daily average in the past seven days was 704, which is 75.4% of the figure from the previous seven days, at 933.9. The number of COVID-19 patients showing serious symptoms was 69, down by four from Wednesday.

The Osaka prefectural government said Thursday that 501 people had been newly confirmed as having been infected with the virus. It was the first time in two days that the daily tally exceeded 500. The prefecture also recorded 32 deaths from COVID-19 on the day.
