83-year-old woman charged with murder of 85-year-old man in Sheffield

Emergency services were called to a house in Orgreave Lane in Handsworth, near Sheffield, after reports that a man had been seriously injured ( SWNS )

An 83-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of an 85-year-old man found stabbed to death in Handsworth, near Sheffield.

Marjorie Grayson is accused of killing Alan Grayson at a house in Orgreave Lane on Thursday morning.

Mr Grayson, 85, was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were called to the house following reports that a man had been seriously injured.

A post-mortem examination concluded that Mr Grayson died from stab wounds.

South Yorkshire Police has not released details about the pair's relationship to each other.

Ms Grayson, who has been charged with murder and remanded in custody, is due to appear before Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Saturday morning.

A force spokesperson said police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Detective Inspector Simon Palmer, the senior investigating officer, said: “Mr Grayson's family are being supported by specialist officers during this incredibly difficult time and have asked that their privacy is respected.

“I fully appreciate that Mr Grayson's death is highly emotive but I would urge people to think about comments they make on social media and the impact it could have on the family.

“I'd also like to ask that people refrain from posting speculations, to enable criminal proceedings to progress through the courts unhindered and to allow the family time to grieve.”
