82-year-old woman dies in hospital after being seriously injured on Fife bus

An 82-year-old woman has died in hospital after sustaining a serious head injury in a fall on a Fife bus on Monday - she had been in a critical condition since the incident.

She fell forward when the bus braked suddenly - emergency services rushed to the scene and she was taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy , where she passed away on Thursday 11 April.

Police are looking to trace passengers who were on the bus when it happened.

Officers say that the driver of the number 64 Moffat and Williamson service had to stop sharply to avoid a collision while travelling eastbound on Freuchie's East End at around 12pm yesterday (Monday). This caused the woman to fall forward.

Police officer knocked down and seriously injured by off-road bike in West Lothian

Sergeant Fife's Road Policing Unit said:

“This has been a tragic incident which has resulted in the loss of this woman’s life. Our thoughts and sympathies remain with her family and friends at this time.

“Our inquiries continue and I’d like to thank those passengers on the bus who have come forward and assisted officers with the investigation.

“I’d urge anyone who witnessed what happened, or who has any information that can help our investigation, to come forward and contact officers at their earliest opportunity.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1356 of 8 April.
