Property crimes -- which include burglary, theft and arson, as well as auto theft and burglary -- jumped from 3,089 cases in 2014 to 3,512 last year. Bike returned to its rightful owner

Five days after 13-year-old Damian "DJ" Jeffries' custom-made bicycle was stolen from the garage of his family's Burbank apartment complex, police recovered and returned it to the family. The $5,300 Berkel bike, which needs to be repaired, was customized two years ago for Damian, who has cerebral palsy. "He's a jerk, he really is. He's the lowest of the low," Damian said about the theft suspect. Burbank Leader

Traffic tiff

Good fences might make good neighbors, but in the case of a recent disagreement between La Ca񡤡 Elementary School and City Hall over school traffic, a more nuanced approach may be in order. On Jan. 20 the Public Works and Traffic Commission considered, at the request of the city, the feasibility of prohibiting vehicles from making a right-hand turn from Lasheart Drive onto Salisbury Road on school days, between 1:30 and 3:15 p.m. But parents and administrators of the LCE community claim the changes might force more dangerous driving behaviors that could put pedestrians and small children at risk. Council split on cell towers

A decision to install cellphone towers in two local parks encountered a stalemate Tuesday night as City Council members were split on the issue. Mayor Ara Najarian and Councilwoman Paula Devine were in favor of moving forward with the installations, while Councilman Zareh Sinanyan and Councilman Vartan Gharpetian said they wanted to see reports on whether there are any health impacts from radio waves transmitted by the equipment. Earlier this week, Stone's numerous personal and professional achievements were recognized in a celebration at JPL's Pickering Auditorium.
