Sweet sounds of music program return
Regular music instruction has returned for students in kindergarten through third grade this year at Lincoln Elementary in La Crescenta, and on Friday, a group of third-grade students headlined a melodious flag ceremony. The third-graders performed two songs -- "Merrily, We Roll Along" and "Hot Cross Buns" -- in the school's cafetorium in front of parents and teachers. Glendale News-Press

Don't fear the math
Saturday's Maker Faire at Glendale Community College, put together by a student chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, brought out professionals in the engineering field, as well as engineering students from nearby universities, who talked with high school and college students about the possibilities a career in the discipline can offer. Fence fight in Burbank
This is the curious case of a fence that made bad neighbors, or so it seemed Tuesday night during the Burbank City Council meeting where Linda Mosher, a resident of Naomi Street, raised concerns about a fence of solid block and wood slats on her neighbor's property. The case raised questions about whether the city's complaint-based code enforcement process was being abused, according to a local real estate official. Burbank Leader
From cue balls to condos
A local developer wants to swap a long-shuttered pool hall in Montrose for a condominium project. The same group that developed the Montrose Center that houses a Coffee Bean Tea Leaf is looking to tear down the Mix at 2612 Honolulu Ave. to make way for ownership units. Glendale News-Press
