810 Urs begins at dargah in Ajmer

AJMER: Thousands of Malangs and Kalanders on Wednesday walked to the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisty from Mehrauli near Delhi and offered incense sticks to initiate the ritual of 810 years of Urs as Chadi-ki-Rasam.

Malangs were an attraction for devotees as they were piercing and stabbing their mouth and tongue with knives and needles.

About 4,000 Malangs and Kalangers gathered at Chilla of Gudari Shah Baba at Ghati and marched towards Delhi Gate, Dhan Mandi and dargah Bazaar and offered incense sticks in the dargah, "This is an important ritual of the beginning of Urs of Sufi Khwaja Moinuddin," said Syed Qutabbidin Sakhi, khadim of the dargah. There were Malangs from West Bengal, Gujarat, Bihar, Maharashtra and many other states wearing black clothes with long beard and hairs carrying different flags of their dargahs. The annual Urs of Khwaja Moinddun Chisty started as the 'jannati darwaza' opened on this occasion. Meanwhile, the district administration deployed extra forces to tackle law and order in case the situation erupted. Ajmer SP Vikas Sharma directed police personnel to ensure that Covid guidelnes were being followed. Police have been deployed at Kayar Vishram Sthali where buses are coming and devotees are staying.
