81-year-old pensioner battered in vicious street attack

An 81-year-old man was taken to hospital after he was beaten up in a street attack.

The pensioner was targeted as he walked along Britannia Way in Renfrew.

The vulnerable man was thrown to the ground and battered him, leaving his face bloodied and bruised.

And when a 28-year-old man stepped into help him, he was injured too, the Paisley Daily Express reports.

The OAP was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment. Although his wounds are not believed to be serious, the man was left badly shaken.

The attack happened at 10.20pm on Friday, July 31

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "An 81-year-old man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment for facial injuries. A 28-year-old man was also assaulted during the same alleged incident."

A 27-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and a report sent to the procurator fiscal.
