‘80s hits rain down on Rewind crowd

The wet weather didn’t dampen the spirits of revellers who descended on Scone Palace over the weekend for the annual Rewind Scotland extravaganza.

Perth and Kinross residents were among the 12,000 festival-goers, as the popular event marked its 11th year at the picturesque setting with a three-day celebration of all things ‘80s.

Legendary acts performing on the main stage included Bryan Ferry, Foreigner, The Stranglers, Lisa Stansfield, Paul Young and Belinda Carlisle, as well as homegrown talent including Lulu, Midge Ure, Eddi Reader, Big Country and The Skids.

Nostalgia was once again the buzzword at the country’s most colourful festival and the site was awash with fluorescent lycra, headbands and legwarmers as well as an abundance of elaborate fancy dress costumes.

You couldn’t move without bumping into a Ghostbuster, 118 guy, Purple Rain-era Prince, or even Beetlejuice.

The event was hit by heavy rain in the early hours of Saturday morning, turning parts of the arena and campsite into a mudbath.

Thankfully, the weather picked up as the weekend progressed, with the sun occasionally making a welcome appearance.

However, normal service was resumed when the heavens once again opened as Bryan Ferry (left) brought the curtain down on this year’s festival with his sublime Sunday night headline slot.

The former Roxy Music frontman’s hit Let’s Stick Together took on a whole new meaning as festival-goers trudged through the mud from the arena back to the campsite and their cars.

Despite the conditions, many fans hailed it the best Rewind yet, with praise for the improved site lay-out.

Catherine White (46), who travelled through from Glasgow for the weekend, told the PA: “This is the fourth time I’ve been to Rewind and it just keeps getting better.

“The set-up is really good and the atmosphere is amazing. Everyone is out to party and have a great time and the music is incredible and so diverse.”

Sharon King, from Perth, agreed. The 38-year-old mum-of-two, added: “Yet again, Rewind has been brilliant.

“It’s a real family festival and the kids enjoy it as much as the parents.

“Roll on next year.”

As well as the music, festival goers also enjoyed comedy slots by Phil Jupitus, Fred Macaulay, Billy Kirkwood and Jimeoin.
