A daughter kicked, punched and strangled her own mother, leaving her bruised and with a badly injured eye which had to be removed.
The attack happened as the mother and her daughter, Susan Lamb - who has a learning disability - were decorating a Christmas tree.
Earlier the pensioner was due to meet her daughter at a train station but there had been confusion over times and she was late meeting her.
"It seems the defendant was annoyed at that," explained Dawn Pritchard, prosecuting.
"They went to the defendant's flat at Mansfield Woodhouse, and it is then she punched her face several times, causing her to fall to the floor, and repeatedly kicked and punched her and, in the early hours, she strangled her".
The pensioner fled after waiting three days for her daughter to fall asleep.
In a police interview the woman said that they had argued, her daughter would not let her go home and she had tried to calm things down. She didn't remember the first blow but remembered the kicking - "like kickboxing".
Lamb's lawyer, Digby Johnson, said she was not wearing shoes at the time and "it is certainly not with a shod foot".
It also emerged Susan Lamb had been exerting controlling coercive behaviour over her mother's activities from time to time, Nottingham Crown Court heard.
Her injuries were discovered at her assisted-housing home in Mansfield Woodhouse when a member of staff went to her flat and saw she had bruised hands and her right eye was completely bloodshot.
She was taken to the accident and emergency department at King's Mill Hospital, Sutton-in-Ashfield, then to Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
She had lost her vision in her right eye, which was filled with blood, and her eye ball was removed and she now has a prosthetic.
She said she had a problem with Susan for about a year - but had never reported anything - and her daughter had become controlling and tried to isolate her from the rest of the family, and they were also low-level assaults.
A victim impact statement, read in court, revealed that losing an eye meant even making a cup of tea was difficult and she had to change the layout of her kitchen.
She described her daughter as being "one of my closest family members" and "I now have lost that and, as a mother, I have lost a child" and "she wishes to remove the defendant from her life".
Aged 55, Lamb, of Perlethorpe Avenue, Meden Vale, Mansfield, pleading guilty to wounding and using controlling and coercive behaviour.
Recorder Simon King sentenced her to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, for the wounding, and passed a concurrent sentenced of eight months, also suspended for two years, for the controlling behaviour.
He added 35 rehabilitation activity days, and a five-year restraining order to protect her mother.
The court heard Lamb had to manage a learning disability and, as a consequence of something happening earlier in her life, post-traumatic stress disorder.
The judge told her in the dock: "It is clear that you are able to manage in the community but you do not find it as easy to do as people who don't have to cope with those sorts of difficulties."
He noted that she had been in custody whilst awaiting sentencing for about nine months which was the equivalent of an 18-month sentence.
