80 people involved in 'a number of fights' in Ripley town centre

Police officers who were called to a 'disturbance' in a town centre found a gathering of around 80 people and a number of fights taking place.

Officers were called out to Ripley Market Place at 12.20am overnight on Friday, July 10.

Although no arrests were made at the scene the police enquiries continue to identify anyone who may have committed an offence.

Because of the large number of people, and the ongoing risk posed by Covid-19, a dispersal order has been put in place from 6pm on Saturday (July 11).

The order, which will be in place for 48 hours, will require anyone to leave the area, highlighted on the map below, and not return within 24 hours.

Anyone who refuses to leave, or breaches the order, can be arrested.

Witnesses are asked to contact Derbyshire Constabulary via 101, or via the force's social media accounts, and quote incident number 23-110720.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Dispersal orders give police the extra powers to break up groups of two or more people, where they believe their behaviour is causing a nuisance, harassment or distress.
