80% of people from Brighton have won a prize - making it luckiest city in UK

If you fancy winning big you better hope a Brightonian isn’t in the room, as new research unveiled today reveals that those hailing from the seaside town are luckier than anyone else in the UK.

According to the research from Buzz Bingo, whilst 6 in 10 Brits have won a prize in their lifetime, this rises by 20% to 8 in 10 in Brighton.

The UK’s largest bingo operator has released the research today ahead of National Bingo Day on Sunday 27 June 2021. Whether playing online or in club, there are plenty of opportunities to win big at Buzz Bingo and to celebrate, winners will receive a free chicken basket meal when they call ‘house’ on 27, 06 or 21 – winner winner, chicken dinner!

According to the data, other UK locations Brits win big include Norwich and Glasgow, with almost 7 in 10 people in these cities taking home a win of some kind in their lifetime.

At the other end of the scale, just 5 in 10 hailing from Belfast have won a prize, making it the UK’s unluckiest city.

When it comes to luck, surprisingly Millennials are more superstitious than any other generation, with nearly half (48%) owning a lucky charm compared to just 24% of Gen X and 17% of Baby Boomers. Of those who own a lucky item, most count a piece of jewellery or a coin (19%) as the object that brings them luck, but a surprising 10% have lucky underwear.

But it seems there is one area Brits can agree on. An overwhelming majority picked number 7 (12%) as their lucky number, with number 13 – unlucky for some! – coming in second (4%).

There are many reasons Brits might choose number 7 as their lucky number. There are seven days in the week, seven colours in the rainbow and of course, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It’s also James Bond’s code number and the shirt both David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo wore for many years.

Richard Kearns, Head of Bingo Development at Buzz Bingo, says: “Since bingo clubs re-opened in May, we’ve given away over £8million to lucky players across the UK. Whether you believe in lucky charms, lucky numbers or even if you just think you’re a lucky person, it’s always an amazing moment to see someone win big in club.

“That’s why this National Bingo Day, we’re celebrating by giving winners an additional chicken basket meal prize. Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!”.

Buzz Bingo will mark National Bingo Day all week long with various in-club and online offers between 2 1st – 27 th June. On 27 th June, players who call ‘house’ on 27, 06 or 21 during the main event games will win an additional chicken basket meal prize.
