80 green jobs created as hydrogen specialist ITM Power builds big

Hydrogen production specialist ITM Power is recruiting 80 engineers as it embarks on a major expansion drive.

The Sheffield-headquartered business has recently opened a huge new manufacturing facility in the city as it deals with record-breaking orders for electrolyser equipment.

It recently won two key contracts with German oil refineries as it also works alongside offshore wind energy leader Orsted to produce from green electricity.

New recruits will join a workforce of around 230 at the Gigafactory on Bessemer Park.

It is now fully operational and began shipping orders from the site earlier this month.

Dr Graham Cooley, chief executive of ITM Power, said: “We believe that the manufacturing of the machinery necessary to help the world through the energy transition should be based here in the UK.

“We now have all the resources we need – capacity, finances and customer demand – to be able to provide rewarding roles to more and more people. We’ve come a long way; and want people to join us for the rest of this incredible journey.”

It is seeking technical project managers, electrical, manufacturing and process automation engineers, chemists, compliance specialists and field engineers.

On the Humber, ITM Power is in consortia with Orsted and oil major Phillips 66, while a further project is underway with Orsted and Siemens Gamesa - with others - looking at producing hydrogen within offshore wind farms.

Late last year the business raised £165 million in working capital with a share issue as it geared up for growth.
