8-year-old boy suffers serious leg injury after being hit by car in Leeds city centre

A young boy has been taken to hospital after being seriously injured when he was hit by a car in Leeds city centre this afternoon.

West Yorkshire Police received reports of the collision on Bridge Street shortly before 3pm on Friday, April 12.

The youngster, aged just 8, was struck by the car, which was heading off the roundabout at the bottom of Eastgate, near the Leeds Playhouse. The incident happened at the junction of Bridge Street and Lady Lane.

Officers quickly arrived on the scene to cordon off the street and have spoken to the driver.

Paramedics arrived to find the boy with a serious leg injury and he has been taken to hospital for treatment. However, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The force quickly reopened the street, meaning there were no traffic issues heading into rush hour.
