8 Scottish things we didn't think we'd miss during lockdown - but we do

Coronavirus has made the country long for pub trips, picnics, seeing family and setting the world to rights with friends over a pint.

But as we enter the third week of lockdown, it's hard not to feel nostalgic about the things we once took for granted.

Even as so many work hard to follow strict new measures and stay indoors, many have been casting their minds back to the good old days of normality.

Here are 8 of the things about Scotland that we never expected to miss.

Bagpiping buskers

There was a time when the sound of bagpipes would set our teeth on edge. Especially the badly-tuned renditions of Scottish anthems screeched from tourist hotspots.

Now a single note from Scotland the Brave is enough to bring a tear to anyone's eye during lockdown.

ScotRail

As a famous song had it: "don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you got 'til it's gone?".

Joni Mitchell's lyrics probably weren't about ScotRail, but the lockdown has got passengers romanticising about trips of old.

And there was nothing quite like getting a train with your pals on a weekend brimming with hen parties, concert goers and football fans chanting songs.

Cracking open a tin of G&T doesn't quite feel the same in the living room.

A pint of Tennent's

There’s endless offers of craft beer on draft, but right now we just wouldn’t say no to an ice cold pint of T in our local pub.

Who could have thought we’d miss a pint of Scotland’s other national drink this much?

Busy high streets

We'd love to be back battling through endless sea of shoppers on Princes Street (SWNS)

Hitting the high street on a Saturday is some people's idea of a living nightmare.

Battling through tourists, dodging buskers and being battered by shopping bags - many would rather stay indoors.

Not to mention attempting to weave through an endless sea of shoppers walking slowly on Buchanan or Princes street.

But seeing our famous streets deserted of people, it appears we'd all love to be back in the hustle and bustle again.

Beer gardens

As soon as the sun peaks out from behind the clouds, you can bet every Scot and their dog will find the nearest beer garden to fritter away an afternoon.

Even if that means shivering in the shade in a cramped seating area, we will do our best to make the most of a Scottish summer.

Going to the football

The world has changed so much since Scottish football was called off due to coronavirus.

It's hard not to miss the whole camaraderie of going to a game with pals - the pre-match pint, the pie, the roar of the crowd, the post-match pints.

Fan will never take Scottish football for granted again once this is all over.

Curing a hangover

We all know that the only remedy for the morning after the night before is a full Scottish breakfast (Daily Record)

We all know that the only remedy for the morning after the night before is a can of Irn-Bru and a full Scottish breakfast.

There's nothing like that first bite of greasy black pudding following a night guzzling drinks while sharing drunken tales.

Whether it be home-made by your a loved one or trudging to the nearest cafe, who knew it could be possible miss the simple rituals of curing a hangover?

The rain

Even the unpredictability of Scottish weather is missed right now.

When you're caught short without an umbrella on the way to work, sideways rain that soaks you to the skin or storm clouds on a picnic, there's nothing quite like it.

It could be the hottest day on records in Scotland, but you'll always remember to take a jacket with you.
