JIND: At least eight people including a woman were killed while 9 others received serious injuries after a head-on collision between Haryana roadways bus and a cruiser near Bibipur village falls on Bhiwani Jind-road on Saturday in Jind district.
Jind SP Sumit Kumar told the TOI that the incident took place due to overtaking sought by the bus driver. A case has been registered against the bus driver on the complaint of a relative, said SP.
The deceased have been identified as Ravi (32), hails from Madanheri village and Bimla Devi from Bhaklana village of Hisar district, Manoj (45), Hardeep (37), Sukhwinder (30), all are from Mundhal village of Bhiwani district, Sanjay from Siwan village of Kaithal district, Rahul (21) from Dadri district and one couldn’t be traced yet.
Reportedly, a Haryana roadways bus left Jind bus stand around 9am, and collided with cruiser (light motor vehicle (LMV) near Bibipur village at a distance of around 15 km from the bus stand.
It was raining while the incident took place and the bus driver made an effort to cross a vehicle but rammed into the cruiser directly leaving four deaths on the spot, said sources.
After getting the information, six ambulances were rushed to the spot and police launched a rescue operation as the cruiser was mangled after the collision.
A few bodies were brought out after cutting parts of the cruiser, said officials.
Deputy civil surgeon doctor Rajesh Bhola said that seven people were brought dead and one succumbed to his injuries while treatment. Moreover, eight pateints have been referred to post graduate institute of medical sciences (PGIMS) Rohtak for treatment, he said.
A case for rash driving against a bus driver has been lodged. All the persons killed in the tragic incident were travelling in the cruiser, said SP.
Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar expressed grief over the incident and urged people to drive carefully on roads.
