MADURAI/TRICHY: New Covid-19 cases in Madurai dropped further to just eight cases on Tuesday - the lowest since the third wave began. The trend was similar in south Tamil Nadu as well as only 50 new cases and two 19 deaths were reported. Meanwhile, the southern region recorded 267 recoveries on Tuesday, taking the total active cases to 1,247.
Trichy also continues to record dip in the fresh cases with 19 cases, 384 active cases, one death and 83 recoveries. Overall, the central region reported 59 new cases and 1,258 active cases.
Madurai (8) recorded the second highest number of new cases on Tuesday in the southern region. With 23 recoveries, the district has 123 active cases and test positivity rate of 0.4%. No new deaths were recorded in Madurai. Kanyakumari (13) recorded the most number of new cases, followed by Madurai and Sivagangai (7). Tirunelveli (5), Tuticorin (5), Virudhunagar (5), Dindigul (5), Ramanathapuram (2), Theni (2), and Tenkasi (1) recorded only five or less new cases. tnn
