INDORE: Recording a surge in daily Covid-19 count for the second day in a row, Indore on Tuesday night reported eight new cases, taking the number of active cases to 25.
The spurt on Wednesday prompted senior health officials to begin contact tracing of positive patients on war footing. Among the contacts of eight persons, two are from same family residing near Agrawal Nagar. As many as four members of their family were found positive on Monday.
"A 50-year-old woman of Telephone Nagar and a 26-year-old boy of Shanti Niketan Colony have been found positive, while two infected members of a family, residing near Robot Square, have left for Shajapur. So, we have informed our counterpart there for the contact tracing," sampling and contact tracing in-charge Dr Abdullah Farooqi said.
The health officials have received an alert from Jaipur and Bhopal about two persons, who are residents of Indore, but presently working and staying in said two cities, after they tested positive for Covid-19, Farooqi said.
Besides them, a two-year-old boy, who is a resident of Nagin Nagar and was tested positive on Tuesday, has been kept in home isolation and is undergoing treatment at home.
Indore chief medical and health officer (CMHO) Dr BS Saitya was among senior health officials carrying out contact tracing of the infected patients. More than 100 samples of people who came in contact with the eight positives have been collected, officials said.
Indore district has reported 25 new cases in the last one week. Of them, 17 cases have been reported only in the last two days. Following this, local health department has intensified contact tracing of positive patients along with appealing people to not lower their guard and follow Covid-19 guidelines to help prevent the possible third wave.
Dhar district too reported one new case of Covid-19. After Indore, Dhar has reported a maximum of 13 new cases of Coronavirus in the last one week.
