Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Marie Wilson on Wednesday tabled the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government's maiden budget for the financial year 2026-27 in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, announcing a series of welfare schemes including an 8 gram gold coin and a silk saree for women at the time of their wedding.

What is the gold coin and silk saree scheme for women?

The scheme, under which women will receive an 8 gram gold coin and one silk saree at the time of their wedding, has been allocated Rs 812 crore in the budget, Wilson announced.
