SAMUT SAKHON: Police have arrested eight of the 11 young men who stormed a hospital emergency room in Krathum Ban district on Sunday night, attacked a patient and two of his friends and fired 12 warning shots.
Court warrants were approved for the arrest of the 11 suspects for colluding in physical assault, raiding a hospital and firing shots in a public area, Pol Col Mana Inpitak, acting chief of Samut Sakhon police said on Tuesday.
Eight had been caught. They confessed to the charges, he said.
They said they had a dispute with a rival, who was injured in a brawl on Sunday and sought treatment at Krathum Baen Hospital. As the conflict had still not been resolved, they went in there to settle it.
The gang terrified medical staff and patients when they rushed into the hospital and attacked two men in the waiting room who had just taken their injured friend into the emergency room.
The pair fled into the emergency room. One attacker, armed with a baseball bat, ran in after them and repeatedly hit the already injured man in full view of medical staff and patients. The gang later fled in a pickup truck and on a motorcycle. Twelve gunshots were heard outside the building.
The attack left three men injured - Surachet Ananchaisil, 26, the admitted patient who was hit on the head with a baseball bat by the assailant, and his two friends Newin Paen-ngern, 24 and Theerayut Chuepeng, 26.
Pol Gen Chalermkiart Srivorakhan, deputy national police chief, led the interrogation of the eight detained suspects at Krathum Baen police station. Police were tracking down the other three.
