8 from Jharkhand among 9 dacoits held

BERHAMPUR: Police on Wednesday busted an interstate gang of dacoits with the arrest of nine of its members, eight of whom were from Jharkhand, from an overbridge at Khajuria near NH-16 under the Goshaninuagaon police station limits in Berhampur.

“An auto-rickshaw, a country-made revolver with three ammunitions, three live bombs, three swords, three irons roads and 32 mobile phone sets, which the gang members had stolen from different places in Ganjam district were seized from them,” sub-divisional police officer (Berhampur) Bishnu Prasad Pati said. He added that the gang, which was earlier involved only in snatching mobile phones from different areas of the district, was preparing for a major dacoity on the national highway, when the police arrested them.

Out of the 32 mobile phones seized from their possession, ten were found to have been snatched from different areas of Berhampur and Hinjili on July 17 and 18, Pati said.
