1. Bombay

Bombay cats are often called 'Velcro cats' as they love nothing more than being close to their pet parents. This is a very intelligent breed and will need plenty of mental stimulation to keep from getting bored – think puzzle feeders and interactive cat toys.
This is a generally healthy breed and doesn't require a lot in terms of exercise. Around 30 minutes daily will be enough, which can be broken up into short sessions throughout the day. Interestingly, the Bombay is the only cat breed that is always black – and they are also one of the rarest cat breeds.
2. British Shorthair

British Shorthairs are friendly and affectionate cats. They are a very independent cat breed and have a laid-back attitude. These cats have thick, dense coats that need weekly grooming to keep mats away.
If you're thinking of getting a British Shorthair, you'll need to set aside $1,500-3,000 and know that they are one of the most popular breeds in the US.
3. Persian

Weight: 7-12lbs

Persian cats are not just gorgeous felines but make excellent companions. You'll never run out of reasons to love Persians, but one of our favorites is their super sweet and loving nature. They enjoy spending time close to their pet parents and are always up for a snuggle session.
Persians can live between 12-15 years, making them one of the longest living cat breeds. They can be prone to some health issues, and they are a brachyephalic breed, which can cause problems with breathing.
4. Maine Coon
Height: 10-16"
Weight: 18-22lbs
Other colors: Brown, white, tabby, black or blue
Maine Coons are one of the largest cat breeds. These giants can weigh between 18–22lbs and are around 4ft long. But don't be intimidated by their size, they are the gentle giants of the cat world.
They have a very sweet disposition and are extremely friendly cats. Due to this, they are one of the best cat breeds for families. Maine Coons are adventurous cats, so they will need around 30 minutes of playtime each day.
5. Scottish Fold

Scottish Folds are some of the most popular breeds around. Just ask Taylor Swift, who is cat mom to two Scottish Folds. One surprising fact about Scottish Fold cats, is that not all kittens are born with characteristic folded ears. Only about 50% of kittens are born with this mutation.
These cats bond closely with their pet parents, and one of the cat breeds most likely to suffer from separation anxiety. So be prepared to spend plenty of quality time with them. 6. Devon Rex

One of the most playful cat breeds around, the Devon Rex has endless bounds of energy. You will definitely need to stock up on plenty of cat toys, scratching posts, and cat trees to keep them busy.
If you're looking for a low-maintenance cat, then this is a breed worth considering. They require minimal grooming, thanks to their curly coats, and are happy to play by themselves or with their pet parents.
Devon Rex cats are often confused with the Cornish Rex, but if you take a close look at their features, you'll see that the Devon Rex has a more elf-like appearance.
7. Cornish Rex

Weight: 5-10lbs
Color variations: White, cream, black, chocolate, tabby patterns or tortoiseshell patterns
Cornish Rex cats are another curly haired breed that need minimum grooming. They are striking in looks and even more high energy than the Devon Rex. They are very athletic cats and are known for being able to jump up to eight feet high.
Another interesting fact about the Cornish Rex is that they are one of the cat breeds that like water, so don't be surprised if you find them trying to splash around in the bath with you.
Their love for adventure doesn't end with water. This breed loves being outdoors. So it may be worth installing an outdoor cat enclosure so they can enjoy the outdoors safely.
8. Sphynx

One of the most unusual-looking cat breeds is the sphynx cat. This hairless cat is a fan among allergy sufferers, as it's considered to be a hypoallergenic cat breed.
One thing you need to know about Sphynx cats is that they love being the center of attention. They have some of the biggest meows around and are not afraid of being vocal.
This breed is also highly intelligent, so it will need plenty of mental stimulation to keep it from getting bored.
