If you’ve ever wished you had a more efficient way of cleaning bathroom tiles, around taps, even frying pans and toilet bowls, the best electric cleaning brushes could be the answer. Once you’ve tried one you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it, as they perform deep cleaning with hardly any effort from you.
Most cleaning brushes look and work like electric toothbrushes. You press the button and the brush head oscillates to clean surfaces, nooks and crannies. But some electric cleaning brushes are extendable, have large brush heads, come with scouring pads and sponges, and some are more powerful than others. So how do you choose which one is right for you?
Cleaning expert Henrique Conceicao explains what you should look for: “Features that extend the life of the brush, like removable batteries, USB‑C or a sturdy dock, and easily sourced heads, usually beat gimmicks on value over two to three years of regular use.”
But to save you trying out brushes to find the right one, I spent three weeks testing electric cleaning brushes, from the cheap and simple Beldray brush to the heavy duty Ryobi brush. Read on for my pick of the best brushes.

Lakeland electric cordless scrubber

Best: electric cleaning brush overall
Weight: 280g
Brush heads: One plus two sponges
Speed settings: Two
Battery life: 90 minutes
Maximum power: Unspecified
Why we love it
- Great price
- Long battery life
- Sponge attachment
- Two speed settings
Take note
- Soft bristle brush
At £40 cheaper, Lakeland’s electric cordless scrubber is a serious rival for the Bosch universal brush. Its 3.7V 10W isn’t as powerful as the Bosch, but it does the same job just as well. I used it on my cooker top and, while the bristles on the flat brush are a little softer than the Bosch, it cleans deeply and the softer, longer bristles mean it can get into corners better without the need for a smaller brush head.

The brush also comes with a sponge attachment, which is great for cleaning more delicate areas like glass, and a scourer which I used on my frying pans. There are two speeds, with the higher setting allowing you to clean more efficiently. It takes around two and a half hours to fully charge the brush, but once charged you get around 90 minutes of usage. If you’re looking for an all-round, handheld, compact electric cleaning brush, this one is a great option at a great price.

Beldray anti bac turbo scrubber brush

Best: budget electric cleaning brush
Weight: 270g
Brush heads: Five
Speed settings: One
Battery life: Four AA batteries
Maximum power: Unspecified
Why we love it
- Anti bac
- Great price
- Versatile round brush head
Take note
- Needs four batteries
The cheapest of all the brushes I tested, this is an impressive little scrubbing set, with five different brush heads. I used the biggest brush head for my kitchen and bathroom tiles, the cone brush is perfect for cleaning around taps, while the small bristle brush is ideal for getting into small spaces. I used the soft brush for getting into the gaps and folds in my washing machine door.

The round brush head is the most versatile. It’s the right size and shape for cleaning glassware and inside water bottles, but I decided to use it to clean my toilet. It did a great job. What’s really different about this brush set is the anti bac element. The brush heads are treated with zinc pyrithione, and I noticed how clean it stayed, no matter how much I used it.

Sonic Scrubber rechargeable system

Best: chargeable electric cleaning brush
Weight: 410g
Brush heads: Four
Speed settings: One
Battery life: Three hours
Maximum power: 10,000 oscillations per minute
Why we love it
- Rechargeable
- Powerful
Take note
- Noisy
If you think all handheld scrubbing brushes are the same, think again. Cleaning guru Mrs Hinch famously loves her Sonic Scrubber and it’s easy to see why. The rechargeable system has the edge for me, as you don’t need to mess around with batteries.

It comes with four brush heads, including the medium brush, the cone brush (which is great for grout and intricate areas), the soft brush (which I used on food debris on my sofa), and the large brush. The large brush is my favourite. I used it for scrubbing pans while washing dishes and it replaces plastic scourers perfectly. It runs at 10,000 oscillations a minute and I could really feel the power in the brush.

Lakeland turbo scrubber

Best: electric cleaning brush for reach
Weight: 890g
Brush heads: Four
Speed settings: One
Battery life: 60 minutes
Maximum power: 220rpm
Why we love it
- Long reach
- In-built cleaning dispenser
Take note
- Expensive
- Long charging time
I have high ceilings at home, so when I saw how far this scrubber extends (112cms), I knew it would be a godsend. But it doesn’t only work for reaching high up, it also means you don’t have to stoop down to clean the bottom of the bathroom tiles. There are four brush heads: a large brush and small brush, which I used to buff clean the bathroom tiles, a flat brush which is great for grout, and a side brush that gets into all the corners.

The 220rpm motor means the brush has a lot of power and I only had to hold it in place for it to do the job. I thought it was a little expensive for a cleaning brush, but the extendable arm and the 50ml cleaning spray dispenser made it worth it. It does take around four hours to fully charge this brush, which is a long time to wait when it’s run down, but once charged you get around an hour of usage.

Bosch universal brush

Best: electric cleaning brush for scouring
Weight: 330g
Brush heads: Two plus eight sponges
Speed settings: One
Battery life: 45 minutes
Maximum power: 215rpm
Why we love it
- Scourer attachments
- Powerful
- Handheld
Take note
- Only one speed setting
- Hard to control, the brush moved in various directions
This handheld little brush is more powerful than it looks and once fully charged, which took about 45 minutes, it lasts for up to an hour. It runs at 215rpm, but it only has the one speed and while using it to clean my kitchen table, which gets greasy from my cooker, I found it hard to control.

You can buy it as the brush by itself, or you can buy the brush set, which I have. This includes a cone brush for more intricate cleaning, two blue micro fibre non scratch pads perfect for cleaning glass, two green kitchen pads, two brown abrasive heavy duty pads, and one white eraser melamine pad. I used the kitchen pads on my old frying pans and it brought them up like new.

Sonic Scrubber household system

Best: electric cleaning brush for sinks and taps
Weight: 212g
Brush heads: Four
Speed settings: One
Battery life: Four AA batteries
Maximum power: 10,000 oscillations per minute
Why we love it
- Easy to store
- Gets into small sapces
- Batteries included
Take note
- More expensive than similar brushes
I found this handheld scrubber brush to be a little expensive for what you get. It has four brush heads, so one less than the Beldray and the large brush head isn’t as powerful as the Lakeland electric scrubber brush. But this scrubber brush does have the edge in other areas. It runs at 10,000 oscillations like the rechargeable system, and you can feel the speed of it when you use it.

I especially loved the cone brush head, which I used to clean around my taps and around the plug in the sink. This brush also comes with batteries included, which the other similar brushes don’t, so if you figure that into the higher price it works out at only a couple of quid more.

Ryobi one + cordless compact power scrubber

Best: electric cleaning brush for heavy duty cleaning
Weight: 1.2kg
Brush heads: One
Speed settings: One
Battery life: 155 minutes
Maximum power: 210rpm
Why we love it
- Powerful
- Great for deep cleaning and cleaning outdoors
- Additional harder and softer brushes can be bought
Take note
- Battery pack is purchased separately
- Expensive
The most expensive cleaning brush I tested, and also the most powerful, this one can be used inside the home for deep cleaning and also outside on car wheels and patio furniture. I tested the brush on my bathroom tiles and it brought out the limescale in the grout easily.

It is a lot to pay for a cleaning brush and the lithium battery pack has to be bought separately, making it even more expensive, but it’s a very powerful brush. It runs at 210rpm, more like a power tool than a simple cleaning brush, and it’s great for tough cleaning jobs. It only takes around half an hour to charge the battery and it gives you a huge 155 minutes of power.

Lakeland electric scrubber

Best: electric cleaning brush for grip
Weight: 240g
Brush heads: Four
Speed settings: One
Battery life: Four AA batteries
Maximum power: Unspecified
Why we love it
- Grip
- Lightweight
- Great for delicate areas
Take note
- Needs four batteries
- More expensive than similar brushes
These handheld scrubber brushes that look like electric toothbrushes aren’t all the same, but this one is pretty similar to the Beldray scrubber brush I tested. Similar, but not the same. This one only has four brush heads, while the Beldray has five, and the Beldray has anti bac properties, which this one doesn’t. For £2 more, this Lakeland brush doesn’t quite match up.

However, the big brush head on this one is harder than the others, so does a better job of scrubbing pans and tiles. I used the soft brush head for my washing machine, in the crevices of the rubber around the door, and it came up really clean. I loved the non-slip handle, which felt firm when using the brush.

Your questions about electric cleaning brushes answered
What is the best electric cleaning brush?
For an all-round, handheld, compact electric cleaning brush, the Lakeland electric cordless scrubber tackles kitchen tiles, greasy pans, glass, and it can get into corners. At just £19.99 it’s great value for money, too. I like that it has two speed settings and comes with a sponge and scourer for versatile use. If you’re looking for something more heavy duty, the Ryobi one + cleaning brush might be the most expensive on this list at £95.99, but it has the power to deal with baked-on grease with ease. For intricate cleaning and with anti bac properties, the Beldray is a bargain buy at just £12.99.
