8,000 Solarplicity customers to be switched to EDF tomorrow

Thousands of Solarplicity customers will be joining 'big six' energy giant EDF this weekend.

Ofgem said it's appointed the company to take on all Solarplicity's 7,500 domestic and 500 business customers on the back of the challenger firm's collapse on Tuesday.

All outstanding domestic customers’ credit balances, including money owed to both existing and former customers of Solarplicity, will also be honoured, the regulator said.

For existing customers, energy supplies will continue as normal as they switch over to EDF Energy on Saturday 17 August.

Over the next week, customers will be also contacted about the changes - and how it will affect them.

Once the switch is completed, customers will be free to leave penalty-free if they find a cheaper energy deal elsewhere.

Rob Salter-Church, Ofgem’s strategy director, said: " I am pleased to announce we have appointed EDF Energy for the customers of Solarplicity. Their energy supply will continue as normal, and domestic credit balances will be honoured.

"EDF Energy will be in contact with customers over the coming days with further information. Once the transfer has been completed, customers can shop around for a better deal if they wish to."

Anyone with questions over the transition period, should visit EDF Energy’s website or call: 0333 009 6993.
