Over £9,000 in donations have been made in less than 24 hours to a fundraiser set up for a delivery driver who was seriously injured in Hamilton yesterday.
Locals set up the fundraiser to help support the driver, who works at the EuroCentral depot of DPD, and his family while he recovers in hospital from his injuries.
Police confirmed yesterday that a 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and have issued an appeal for any witnesses to come forward.
The GoFUndMe page describes him as a "lovely man who goes out his way to make sure we all get our parcels".
Kelly Marie Edgar, who helped set up the page alongside Roisin Gallagher, told Glasgow Live: "Myself and friend Roisin had a discussion about wanting to do something for our local delivery driver.
"We threw around some suggestions like cards and gifts, but I really wanted to give him money as he is a self employed driver who is out there risking his life during a pandemic and if he can’t work he won’t get paid".
And Kelly Marie has been amazed with the response so far from locals, with £7,365 raised of an initial £250 target in less than 24 hours.
"We have raised an astonishing amount already. We might limit the fundraiser as we have another neighbour who is collecting cards for him and the cut off point for the cards to be collected and taken to him is Friday."
