77 per cent of Glaswegians think there is too much plastic packaging on food, research reveals

Around 77 per cent of Glaswegians think there is still too much plastic packaging on food and drinks, new research has found.

Climate change is affecting our earth at an irreparable rate and and one of the main contributors to this is plastic waste.

The amount of household waste we are producing is increasing by 30 per cent each year, but a poll by tech company Ubamarket reveals that attitudes towards plastic pollution are rapidly changing.

Around 77 per cent of Glaswegians agree that the level of plastic packaging on food and drink products is wholly unnecessary and needs to be changed drastically, the findings show.

More than half of Glasgow agree that they wish that they could buy more environmentally friendly products but they often feel that they are too expensive.

Refreshingly, 32 per cent of locals agree that they now seek to actively purchase products that have less of an impact on the environment, even if they cost more.

Meanwhile, almost half of Glaswegians admit that they want to be more environmentally conscious but do not know enough about recycling and plastic pollution to make informed decisions about their purchases.

According to Ubamarket, shoppers have the ability to change how manufacturers package goods.

They say that spending power should not be underestimated and is the most effective way that customers can put pressure on manufacturers to reduce the amount of single-use plastic in their products.
