76ers thank ‘Jimmy Buter,’ get roasted for misspelling name

The Philadelphia 76ers tried to do a nice thing Saturday. They tried to tweet a thank-you message to departing Jimmy Butler, who’s off to the Miami Heat in a miracle sign-and-trade deal.

The 76ers tried. And they failed pretty miserably, misspelling the shooting guard’s name. They tagged him in the post, but in the graphic for the tweet, the message read: “Thank you Jimmy Buter”.

This error was made despite Butler’s name being spelled in his Twitter handle and in an image of the back of his jersey in the graphic itself.

The tweet remained up for several minutes after the 76ers tweeted it Saturday afternoon, but the account eventually deleted it. But that certainly didn’t stop the internet from roasting the 76ers for this egregious error.
