The 76ers have decided to loosen the restriction on Joel Embiid's playing time. The rookie center was set to play 28 minutes starting with Wednesday night's game against the Sacramento Kings. The game at the Wells Fargo Center was postponed because of persistent moisture on the court.
Embiid had been restricted to playing 24 minutes a game this season as a precaution. The third overall pick of the 2014 draft missed the last two seasons after having surgery twice to repair the navicular bone in his right foot. As result, the Sixers are bringing him along slowly.
"Everybody would see the impact that Joel has when he is on the floor," Sixers coach Brett Brown said. "The four minutes, by all indications, will give us a better chance of winning."
Brown said the change was made after recent assessments with the team doctors. Tuesday's evaluation showed that everything is good with Embiid's right foot.
