76ers land Dubs wings Alec Burks, Glenn Robinson III in trade

The Boston Celtics saw a pair of low-cost wings head to Atlantic division rival Philadelphia 76ers Wednesday night as Philly traded for Golden state Warriors wings Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Celtics have reportedly been after adding some wing depth on the trade market, but have met with difficulty finding a reasonable trade partner, reports the Boston Herald’s Steve Bulpett, and this deal may be part of the reason why.

Burks in particular had been speculated by many as a potential Boston trade target, but that opportunity has been extinguished by the Sixers, who paid a steep price for the duo — three second round picks.

Golden State will receive the Dallas Mavericks’ 2020 second-round pick, the Denver Nuggets’ 2021 second-rounder and the Toronto Raptors’ 2022 second for players they might have cut anyway to get under the luxury tax.

The move adds some shooting and scoring that should help Philly’s second unit, but does little to solve the starting unit’s structural woes that may be behind the team’s unanticipated recent skid.

Boston is now reportedly pivoting to big man targets to bolster their bench, but are not planning any major moves ahead of the deadline.
