76ers, Daryl Morey Agree to Contract Extension, per Report

Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey has agreed to a contract extension with the team. The new deal will keep Morey in Philadelphia’s front office through the 2027-28 season, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski

That term coincides with the contract of head coach Nick Nurse, whom Morey hired after last season.

Morey joined the Sixers organization before the 2020-21 season after a 14-year stint as the Rockets’ general manager. His successful, analytics-driven tenure in Houston included 10 playoff appearances and runs to the Western Conference finals in 2015 and ’18. Following that ’18 season, he was named NBA Executive of the Year.

In Morey’s previous three seasons with Philadelphia, the 76ers won at least 49 games each year but lost in the Eastern Conference semifinals under then-coach Doc Rivers. Thus far through the 2023-24 campaign, the Sixers hold the No. 4 seed in the East standings with a 16–7 record.

Sixers executive Daryl Morey reportedly has agreed to a five-year contract extension with the team.

Morey’s new contract effectively puts to rest any concerns the organization may have had in light of James Harden’s criticism of him and trade demands during the offseason.

Even when Harden didn’t attend practices, Morey held onto the guard until getting the deal he wanted from the Clippers, with four players and two first-round picks going to Philadelphia. Those assets could be used to add another impact player to accompany Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey in their championship pursuit.
