More than three quarters of children’s car seats were found to be fitted incorrectly during a safety event in Coatbridge run by North Lanarkshire Council.
Its road safety team, partnered by Good Egg Safety and Road Safety Scotland, checked 37 seats, discovering 76 per cent weren’t fitted properly and could cause injuries to kids if an accident were to occur.
Common mistakes found included; slack harnesses and seatbelts; harnesses set at the wrong height; headrests impeding the fitting of the seat; and carry handles in the wrong position.

Councillor Michael McPake, environment and transport convener, said: “Parents want to make sure they have the correct car seat for their child, but fitting it is just as important for their safety,
“It was disappointing to see so many seats wrongly fitted at our events; and I would encourage parents and carers to look at Good Egg Safety’s online guides before they buy and fit a car seat – their advice is invaluable.”
