73kg of cannabis found in Byron truck

Police have found 73kg of cannabis worth nearly half a million dollars in a truck near Byron Bay. (AAP)

A young woman is in custody after police found 73kg of cannabis, worth nearly half a million dollars, in a truck travelling near Byron Bay.

Police pulled over the Pantech truck travelling on the Pacific Motorway at McLeods Shoot on Wednesday.

When they searched it they found the cannabis, which has an estimated potential street value of $480,000.

A woman and man, both aged 24, were arrested and taken to Byron Bay's police station.

The woman has been charged with supplying a commercial quantity of cannabis. She was formally refused bail on Thursday and will appear in court again on February 4.
