73 Times Women Got The Worst Ick From A Guy And Couldn’t Look At Him Ever Again

There are times when no matter how much you'd like to hit it off with someone, it's just not happening. Even if the two of you make sense as a couple on paper, the chemistry simply isn't there, and not even Marie Curie could fix it.

And then there are moments when attraction seems to sparkle, until they themselves snap you right out of it. To some, those sudden turn-offs—better known as "icks"—can be surprisingly powerful. So TikToker Jess (@jls_1003) asked women on the platform to describe the worst ones guys have ever given them. From the way they talked to how they kept their house, here are the ways in which men instantly ruined their chances.

I came home from work and my very inside dog was tied to a tree outside, bc “the dog was in his way” What. He had to pack his stuff and leave my apt expeditiously. He was never contacted again.

It was actually our first date. He literally fake proposed to me in the middle of a packed and tiny restaurant right after I told him I don’t like being the center of attention with people I don’t know “cause it’s just a funny prank”. I had to tell EVERYONE it was a joke, he went to the bathroom and I walked out. The waitress came running after me with my margarita in a to go cup and I never spoke to him again.

If we were to take a more quantitative look at the topic, we'd see that women are more familiar with "the ick" than men (63% vs. 39%) and are more likely to have experienced it (75% vs. 57%).

Experiencing the ick isn't an instant dealbreaker, but it's close. Data indicates that after experiencing the ick, 26% of people terminate the relationship immediately, while 42% end it a bit later.

That leaves 32% of people who continue the relationship despite the ick. Most do not share the experience with the person who caused it (only 28% do). However, nearly everyone shares it with someone else (92%), most often with friends (80%) or family members (50%).

Spoke on tinder for a week, offered to have coffee and he agreed. When I got there he was sitting with someone. Both the other guy and I were puzzled and the Tinder guy said he wanted to meet both of us to see who he liked more. Me and the other guy both left together and are we’re besties till this day.

The most common icks for women about men are:

  1. Too feminine ("When he laid his head on my shoulder.") – 40%
  2. Publicly embarrassing ("Shazamming a song while he was in a nightclub.") – 28%
  3. Annoying speech ("Saying, 'Wow, without me?'") – 22%
  4. Fashion faux pas ("He wore jorts.") – 14%
  5. Misogynistic ("He loudly shushed another girl.") – 14%

Research also shows that people who are easily disgusted by things like germs, bodily fluids, etc. (i.e., have higher disgust sensitivity) seem more sensitive to specific icks. However, this doesn't necessarily mean they experience the ick more often than others, just that they might be strongly affected by certain triggers. It's like having a sensitive smoke alarm – it might go off more easily with certain types of smoke, but not necessarily with all smoke.

We also know that people with an inflated sense of self-importance and a need for admiration (i.e., grandiose narcissism) are more likely to experience the ick. However, how often they experience the ick isn't necessarily higher. This suggests they're very selective. They might only get the ick when they perceive very specific flaws that threaten their high self-opinion or their partner's perceived status, but they don't get the ick over every little thing.

According to Tinder's Year in Swipe™ 2025 report, people who are dating want more clarity, connection, and authenticity.

"We've all got enough going on, and dating shouldn't feel like another deadline," said Melissa Hobley, Chief Marketing Officer at Tinder. "Singles are looking for a connection that feels easy, honest, and a little bit fun. They're done overthinking every message and overanalyzing every match."

"Dating should add a spark, not more stress. You can already see that energy in what's shaping 2026 — singles are saying exactly what they want, standing for what they believe in, and leading with honesty and openness. Being emotionally available doesn't make you cringe, it makes you interesting."

#19

Went on a first date with a guy who I’d known for more than 7 years. Apparently he’d always had a crush on me and after a 4 years relationship I gave him a shot since he asked for “fair chance”. Anyway, date was very awkward since he mostly didn’t talk just looked at me. But that wasn’t the ick. He asked the waiter if he could pick the table. At first I thought cute, he wants privacy. I asked out of curiosity and he goes “I gotta have full vision of who enters and leaves the place. I’m carrying, since I always gotta protect who’s with me”. Strapped. At a bar….
