72-year-old man assaulted on Penarth Esplanade

A 72-year-old man had to be taken to hospital after being assaulted on Penarth Esplanade.

The incident, which took place at around 2.30pm on Monday, resulted in the elderly victim receiving treatment for an injury in hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses of the assault and particularly want to speak to a man who stopped to talk to the victim after the incident.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "Police in Penarth are appealing for witnesses following an assault.

"Officers are investigating an assault on the Penarth Esplanade which took place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 26, at around 2.30pm.

"A 72-year-old man received treatment in hospital for his injury.

"Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. In particular, officers would like to hear from a man who stopped to talk to the victim shortly after the assault."
