72 websites got FCRA clearances in 2026 so far, shows government data

New Delhi: RSS-linked Seva Bharathi, Project Mumbai, and Hare Krishna movement are among 72 voluntary groups registered this year to receive foreign donations under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), 2010, according to government data.

Kakinada-based Seva Bharathi, which runs blood banks and helps in disaster relief and education, has been registered under the "Economic, Educational and Social" purposes category to receive foreign funds.

The home ministry has cleared 72 organisations as eligible to receive foreign donations under different categories, data showed.

Project Mumbai, which operates on a Public-Private-People Partnership model to bring social transformation in Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, works to provide clean water, mental health, food for the needy and improve accessibility and inclusivity, according to the organisation's website.

Hare Krishna Movement India -- registered under the Religious (Hindu), Cultural, Economic, Educational, Social category -- works towards empowering "underprivileged children from rural communities", according to the government website.

The Centre recently notified a number of amendments to the FCRA Rules, 2011, tightening accountability for how Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) and associations in India receive and use foreign money.

The FCRA website has also been revamped, with digitisation of all major processes related to foreign contribution regulation, including registration, renewal, annual returns and other services under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act.

Key provisions of the new FCRA Amendment rules, 2026, have also been incorporated.

According to the ministry, the platform has been developed to simplify compliance while strengthening the monitoring and enforcement of foreign funding received by organisations.

"At present, around 14,500 active FCRA organisations are working across the country. Every year, approximately 15,000 to 20,000 applications and about 17,000 annual returns are received," a government statement had said.
