BATHINDA: With farm fires so far largely confined to border districts of Amritsar and Tarn Taran, Punjab on Thursday recorded a maximum of 72 crop residue burning cases in the ongoing season. Before it, the maximum 64 stubble burning cases in a day were recorded on September 29.
With 72 burning cases on Thursday, the cases count was recorded at 392 and crossed the cases recorded till October 7 in year 2019 when stubble burning cases were recorded at 376 till October 7.
However in 2020, the crop residue burning cases were much higher at 1,702.
The first crop burning case this year was reported on September 16. Out of total 392 cases, Amritsar alone has recorded 218, followed by neighbouring district of Tarn Taran at 68.
