700 coronavirus cases recorded across Nottinghamshire on first day of Tier 4 restrictions

A total of 700 new coronavirus cases have been recorded across Nottinghamshire in the past 24 hours, according to the latest Government data.

They come just as Nottinghamshire and vast swathes of the country enter Tier 4, upon rising infection rates across the majority of the country.

Tier 4 generally means rules are now similar in that to those imposed as part of the national lockdown back in November, with all non-essential shops closed and travel outside a locality now prohibited.

Data released as of 4pm on December 31 shows 700 new cases have been reported across the city and county, up from the 623 recorded yesterday (December 30).

In Nottingham, 176 new cases have been reported, bringing the total to 19,978 since records began.

This was also up from 162 reported just a day before.

In the wider county, there were 524 new cases, bringing its total to 30,956.

Ashfield's cases continue to rise, with a total of 132 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, an increase on the day before when there were 111 new cases.

Mansfield and Newark and Sherwood have now surpassed 4,000 cases since records began, upon 80 new cases and 63 new cases respectively in the past 24 hours to December 31.

Most areas have seen a rise on the previous day.

Here is the latest daily breakdown area-by-area:

Ashfield - 4,899 (increase of 132)

Bassetlaw - 4,911 (increase of 43)

Broxtowe - 4,184 (increase of 66)

Gedling - 4,707 (increase of 84)

Mansfield - 4,022 (increase of 80)

Newark and Sherwood - 4,041 (increase of 63)

Nottingham - 19,978 (increase of 176)
