700-bed student scheme for Nottingham car showroom site

New images show the scale of a 700-bed student accommodation complex set to be built on the site of a former car showroom in Lenton, Nottingham.

Two new buildings, which will be three and six storeys high, are set to be built after Unite Student’s plans were given the green light by Nottingham City Council’s planning committee.

The £57 million project, near the University of Nottingham’s Jubilee Campus, should be finished in time for the 2023/24 academic year.

There will be 661 cluster flats with en-suite bathrooms and 39 studio, all using 100 per cent renewable energy.

Nick Hayes, Unite Students’ group property director, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning approval for this exciting development, which allows us to deliver high-quality student accommodation that complements the surrounding area.

“The development supports our strategy of increasing our alignment to the strongest universities and will help to deliver operational efficiencies through greater scale in Nottingham.”

Until recently the site in Derby Road had three car dealerships occupied by Jaguar, Toyota and Lexus.

While Jaguar has relocated to new premises in Enterprise Way, Toyota and Lexus have chosen to move into the space previously occupied by Jaguar, leaving their two dealerships vacant.

The former Jaguar showroom and garage will be retained under the plans.

Unite Students was given full planning permission by the council on Wednesday, March 17.
