We’re still waiting for Kawhi Leonard’s decision as of midday on Friday.
We’ve waited so long for Leonard’s decision that we’re wondering not just where he’ll play but also how he’ll make the decision public. Naturally, Leonard (or someone in his camp) could go the route of leaking the information to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who would inform the world of the decision. But there are so many other interesting ways to announce this decision.
Let’s dive into some of Leonard’s options.
1. Announces it at 5 p.m. on Friday
OK, so this isn’t an interesting way. But it would be a very Kawhi way.
He’s a man who doesn’t seem to love attention and would likely make his decision into a Friday afternoon news dump, particularly with that Friday coming one day after the Fourth of July. What better way to keep the spotlight shifted elsewhere?
And if he chooses to join LeBron in L.A., then people won’t be happy. A news-dump approach might be a way to dodge the haters.
2. Updates his LinkedIn profile
Congratulate Kawhi Leonard for starting his new position at the Los Angeles Lakers!

3. Tweets for first time in years
Leonard last tweeted on July 6, 2015 at 9:38 p.m. Making a decision via Twitter would be quite the underdog story for the handle @kawhileonard, which has four tweets with 387,000 followers and just six following.
4. Sends out purple and gold smoke from his house
It’s like when the Catholic Church decides upon a new pope — but for #KawhiWatch. Leonard would emit purple and gold smoke (or the color of the team of his choosing) which no one would miss, because of the rabid coverage of this process that has included news helicopters tailing cars, in which Leonard may or may not be a passenger.
5. Allows Drake to do it
This scenario is what Drake’s dreams are made of.
7. Allows LeBron James to do it
The Decision (for someone else).
7. Writes a blog post in The Players’ Tribune
I’d expect the post to be four words: “Going to the [insert team name].”
