7 takeaways from the Eagles dominant 31-6 win over the Jets

The Philadelphia Eagles played their most complete game as a unit and improved to 3-2 after a dominating win over the hapless New York Jets on Sunday afternoon.

With a difficult three-game road trip approaching, here are 6 takeaways from the Birds dominant win.

1. Wentz is steady again

Wentz’s numbers didn’t reflect his best outing, as he went 17 of 29 for 189 yards and one touchdown. He was steady once again in leading the Eagles offense and for the second straight week, he didn’t turn the ball over and dominated on third down. Wentz didn’t force the ball and was able to get some extra rest with the Eagles up big and at home. He’ll need to play better with the Vikings, Cowboys, and Bills coming up on the road, but he’s been everything the Eagles need in a star.

2. Eagles look ready to hit the road

Speaking of hitting the road, the games against the Vikings, Cowboys, and Bills will go a long way towards determining who’ll truly be the beast of the NFC East.

3. Eagles defensive front was dominant

The Eagles sacked Jets quarterbacks, Luke Falk and David Fales, 10 times while delivering 16 hits as well. Brandon Graham recorded his first sack of the season and then recorded two more for good measure. Josh Sweat had moments of dominance and the Eagles as a whole played their most complete game as a unit.

4. Rodney McLeod showing his worth

McLeod’s interception was his first since Nov. 19, 2017, and it shows that he’s finally back to being the impact safety that the Eagles need. McLeod now has 12 career interceptions and mad several huge tackles as well.

5. Jordan Howard

Howard tied his career-high in Week 4 when he scored three touchdowns and is starting to look like the bell-cow running back that Eagles fans have clamored for. Howard had 13 carries for 62 yards on Sunday and raised his yards per carry up to 4.7.

6. Orlando Scandrick could provide late-season value

Scandrick was unemployed during the first four weeks of the season but jumped right back into the thick of things, delivering two sacks, two forced fumbles and a 44-yard fumble return for a touchdown in his debut.

Scandrick became the first Eagles cornerback since Bobby Taylor in 1997 with two sacks in a game, and he became the Eagles’ first cornerback with a fumble recovery return for a TD since Sheldon Brown in 2009.

7. Josh Sweat still battling

The Eagles have been using Sweat as an inside pass rusher, and the move is paying big dividends. While playing only 19 defensive snaps, Sweat notched his first career sack, 3 QB hurries, and 3 tackles.
