7 takeaways from first half of Chargers vs. Lions

The Chargers currently lead the Lions 10-6, at the halfway mark.

There have been a few notable takeaways from the first half of the Week 2 matchup.

  • The Lions have done a good job with limiting the running game to just 33 yards on 10 carries.
  • The lack of pass protection and the wide receivers getting little separation has made it difficult for quarterback Philip Rivers.
  • Keenan Allen was the only wide receiver to have a reception before Mike Williams’ huge 47-yard catch. Travis Benjamin failed to haul in both of his targets, including a critical one on third-down.
  • There hasn’t been much of an effective pass rush. The Lions are doing a great job of blocking Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa, and because of that, they have yet to allow a sack.
  • Cornerback Brandon Facyson continues to be picked on in coverage. Facyson has allowed a few receptions, and has yet to defend a pass.
  • The Chargers run defense is still worrisome. The defensive line isn’t getting any push and the second and third lines of defense are struggling to tackle in open space.
  • Safety Adrian Phillips, who’s leading the team in tackles (7), is doing an excellent job in coverage with tight end T.J. Hockenson. Hockenson has just one reception for seven yards on three targets.
